On April 10, 2025, the M. R. Štefánik Conservative Institute (KI), the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) and the Ukrainian Institute (UI) organized a discussion on how the situation of Ukraine fighting against Russian aggression has changed after the new American administration took office.
The discussants included Alexander Duleba (senior researcher of the Slovak Foreign Policy Society – SFPA), Grigorij Mesežnikov (political scientist, president of IVO) and František Šebej (psychologist, foreign policy analyst, former chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic). The discussion was moderated by Ondrej Dostál (KI).
The speakers focused on defining the position of the new US administration in relation to Ukraine and Russia and the significance of current American policy especially for Ukraine. They characterized Russia‘s positions, evaluated the reactions of European countries and other states, and addressed the ongoing negotiations on concluding peace or the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia and the prospects for further coexistence of these two countries. They touched on the broader context of changes in US foreign policy, in particular the consequences for NATO and relations with allies in Europe and beyond, and the impact on global security. During the discussion, they answered numerous questions from the audience.
